When the Robie house was being built, the Robie’s were in Europe and did not see the construction, but the neighbors did. At the time most homes were Victorian in style and when the Robie Prairie Style home was being built the neighbors did not understand it and thought it looked odd or weird. They contacted the Robie’s in Europe and said they should return immediately to see their house and perhaps stop the construction. The Robie’s told them they trusted Wright and knew he would make something different – one of the reasons they asked him to design and build their home. A fantastic house to tour if you can. Maybe a bike trip this summer…
